From Convict in U.S. Penitentiary Leavenworth to Pastor in San Francisco

January 30, 2015

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.

The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”  2 Corinthians 5:17

Yesterday many of you joined us for Free Film Wednesday. In Not of this World, you met Carolyn. Her husband Shawn was convicted of a felony and taken to a prison across the country. She was 9 months pregnant and had a young child to care for. Despite all of this she stood by him.

While Shawn was in Leavenworth, he (and dozens of other convicts) read Francis Chan’s Crazy LoveUpon his release to a halfway house in San Francisco, he literally bumped into Francis. Carolyn shared the mind-boggling story of what happened next. In this this behind-the-scenes clip, Shawn will tell you more about it. Please watch.

Oh, and a couple of years after we filmed this, Shawn became a pastor and the Director of a ministry called Project Bayview.

I absolutely love what our God is using Francis and Lisa Chan for. They are both so gifted and they are using their gifts to serve our God. They open my eyes to see what I should be doing.

    Thank you

I was with Shawn in Leavenworth and I can personally tell you the man is authentic when he preaches.I’m a Buddhist but always respected his preaching. The program we were in is a life changer. I was a career criminal until the program changed my life. I’m sure the program, Life Connections program, may have solidified honest behavior but his faith is unbreakable. I’m proud of Shawn.

Our Heavenly Father, blessed Lord Jesus we give you praise and thanks for Your crazy steadfast love that you pour upon us breath by breath until one day by your Spirit we finally become alive. Thank you for your many faithful servants and Mike.
It was a few minutes ago that I was reading Acts 2, the day of Pentecost, and what happened then you just revealed and is in fact happening now all around the world. You are who you say you are…Oh me of little faith.
Please send a revival and change me first as you have so faithfully changed Mike where once he did not know the meaning of the word good yet he can in fact say and live the new life you’ve given by you where we can be a witness that life indeed is Good with Jesus for Mike. May we know that we are nothing and can’t do anything without you. Bless your servants and continue to use your feeble and broken yet empowered servants to accomplish your purposes through Christ our Lord, Amen.
